John Charles Frémont (January 21, 1813 – July 13, 1890) was an American explorer, military officer, and politician. She was born near Lexington, Virginia, the second child of Thomas Hart Benton (1782–1858) and Elizabeth McDowell (1794–1854). She was born in the home of her mother's father, James McDowell.
